Artist Statement

Andrea Hamann of Strongsoutherly studio is a Berrima based artist, who works primarily in Acrylic and ink, painting at a variety of scales from miniatures through to large scale paintings. Her artworks are colourful and layered, with varying levels of texture and detail depending on the subject. Andrea’s work explores the landscapes that have influenced her, places which can be very real, emotional or imagined. Landscape influences are drawn from memory, and from noticing the variety in the landscapes of the Southern Highlands where she now lives. Through these abstract works Andrea explores connection to place, and identity and memory.
