It’s on again!
Highlands artists are invited to apply to be part of the Southern Highlands ARTS Trail, opening their own studios, or joining with another studio to showcase Highland creativity. This year, we are also inviting Highlands Galleries to participate in the event.
In November 2020, locals and visitors will again be following the ever-popular Trail (social-distancing of course!) visiting Highlands studios and galleries featuring the work of Highlands artists.
The Trail has been a major feature in our cultural landscape for nearly a decade, but its success and popularity has brought with it growing complexity in administration, marketing and management. To help improve the experience for all participants and visitors, a thorough analysis of the event over the past few years was undertaken by Council’s Arts & Culture Advisory Committee and a number of recommendations made.
As a result, for 2020 we have reimagined The ARTS Trail to help streamline the process and enhance its quality and reach:
- A tweak to the name and a new identity to capture the vibrant creativity of the artists on the Southern Highlands ARTS Trail. Artist’s studios will still be the feature of the Trail but, with new vision and energy in 2020, we are keen give a strong Visual Arts focus to the ARTS Trail weekends. For this reason Galleries will again have a strong presence
- The introduction of a ‘Curatorium’ – a group of guest curators whose task it will be to assess work submitted in order to maintain high quality and diversity. This introduces an element of competition which will help to contain the spread of the Trail and keep it manageable from a visitor’s perspective
- The launch of our new ARTSfile website which, as a media-rich portal to all things ARTS/CULTURE/DESIGN in the Highlands, will represent you and your work professionally, and ensure that artists and studios on the Trail are strongly aligned with the best of the arts in all disciplines
- No more SmartyGrants – A new online APPLICATION FORM within this website simplifies the application process, streamlines administration and reduces development time. Get started by clicking the appropriate link below
