Pyrography Workshop at Turned Around Studio
Pyrography is the art of decorating wood or other materials with burn marks resulting from the controlled application of a heated object such as a poker, heated steel tip pen or solar energy. It is also known as pokerwork or wood burning. The term means “writing with fire”, from the Greek pur (fire) and graphos (writing). Under the guiding hand of Steve, our guest tutor from Styro Pyrography, you will learn and practice how varying the type of tip used, the temperature, or the way the iron is applied to the material can create different effects, and a range of tones and shades can be achieved. As an Australian Pyrography artist influenced by Australian landscapes, Steve likes to use reclaimed timber where possible in order to produce original and unique burnings. These one day workshops are designed for beginners to provide an introduction to pyrography. More advanced workshops are available in August (2-day workshop, 21st-22nd).

Sunday Painters Series | Heath Nock
Offering a fresh approach to painting is Ngununggula’s next Sunday Painters Series artist, Heath Nock, who has come to the medium as a celebrated draughtsperson and tattoo artist. Living on Gandangara lands, in The Southern Tablelands, Nock explores his relationship with the Australian landscape working in oil and synthetic polymers paint, and pushing the figure into genderless forms in both urban and rural settings. His segue from a more graphic tattoo style to a brushy, fluid abstraction has been seamless, often taking its cue from music to tap into the world around him.
