A new exhibition coming to Sturt – Landscape with Rock by Tony Ameneiro
Sturt is delighted to present Landscape with Rock – a new exhibition of prints and drawings by renowned printmaker Tony Ameneiro inspired by Fred Williams’ visit to bushland near Mittagong during the late 1950s.
Fred Williams is regarded as one of Australia’s most important landscape painters and it was his four week break to the Southern Highland’s Nattai Valley (now known as ‘The Crags’) which was to inform his love of the Australian bush forever.
Tony’s new show is inspired by that same special spot on the Nattai River where Fred William’s worked some 64 years earlier. Tony was interested in creating a response to our unique Australian landscape, deliberately using the immediacy of monotype printing which was close to William’s own approach.
Tony Ameneiro is an award-winning Southern Highland’s based artist-printmaker incorporating his drawing practice across the areas of etching, monotype relief, and lithography. His work has been collected by major institutions including the British Museum, National Gallery of Australia, Art Gallery of NSW, Queensland Art Gallery, and Art Gallery of South Australia.
The exhibition opens 11am Sunday 1st August, running until 19 September and you are all warmly invited to attend.
