Cat Doyle – After Dark
A resident artist at the SHAC this is Cat Doyle’s second solo exhibition. Self taught (and mentored by amazing artists) her work sensitively examines the hidden emotions of our lives and reflectively explores her cultural roots back in North England.
—
I’m interested in the edges of perception, where objects transform or disappear in the inky blackness of the night. Where the mind starts to play tricks on you, and the imagination takes over. Where the line between reality and the fanciful is blurred. The objects depicted in “After Dark” are solid and real, yet they evoke a fleeting moment in time.
Recollecting silent gathering places and the detritus that remains after everyone leaves; the paintings refer back to the height of the pandemic when the streets were empty and loneliness pervaded the world.
But nothing lasts forever. Change always comes.
The dark artwork is juxtaposed with Day-Glo perspex frames that surround the silver phosphorescence within and promise hope of better days
After dark, comes the light.
